This month for our August Blog Exclusive we are knitting a Two-Color Brioche Cowl with Mary Maxim Mellowspun shown in Dark Grey and Mary Maxim Prism shown in Rainbow. If you've followed along with Part 1 and Part 2 of this series, then you've already been admiring the beautiful ribbed stitches associated with Brioche Knitting Patterns. In Part 3 of this series, we will be putting those ribbed stitches to work creating a beautiful two-sided cowl. It's the perfect accessory for your favorite fall outfit or to match with a fun fall jacket.

The Two-Color Brioche Cowl pattern is written for both Child and Adult sizes and is available for download by clicking the pattern below or follow along with our video tutorial (COMING SOON). We start our cowl working a k1, p1 rib. Work this rib for 1/2 an inch for children's sizes and 1 in for adult sizes.

Note: Throughout the Brioche pattern the yo’s are not counted as a separate stitch. When working the pattern the yo is always knit or purled tog with the sl st.

Working the Brioche Technique in the round, you'll notice a new sitch: purl two together (p2tog). This is because we are not turning our work but continuing in the round. If you look back to Parts 1 and Parts 2 of this series, you'll remember that we continued the ribbing into the brioche pattern. We matched the knit stitches of the rib with the knit stitches of the brioche technique, and then we matched the purl stitches with the yo, sl 1P. When knitting in the round, we create the same effect by alternating which stitches get knit or purled together and which stitches get the yo, sl 1P.

We recommend that you twist the yarn at the end/beginning of each round to anchor your work and prevent holes.
