Are you ready for April’s KAL? The Crafty MD’s gorgeous Easter Pillow is a wonderful accent that you’ll want for your living space all spring long. We are so excited to bring you The Crafty MD for this month’s

There is nothing quite like April. It is a fun month where everybody ends their hibernation. We play fun pranks on each other on the first of the month and later in the month we focus on caring for the Earth which sustains us. No matter what you like to do in April, this month means that we are firmly in spring.

My favorite holiday in April though, is Easter. So, I immediately knew that I wanted to make something for that theme. And what is more characteristic of the holiday than easter eggs? Whether you hunt them or decorate them, they are a chance to have fun. I designed the Easter Comfort Cushion as a small pattern where you can have fun playing with color and textural elements.

Mary Maxim’s Cloudspun Super Bulky yarn comes in 4 different colorways and really is as soft as its name would suggest. You get an amazing 218 yds in one ball which will be almost enough to make 2 of these pillows. But I also wanted to balance the variegated yarn with a more neutral tone and stitch definition, so I went with Mary Maxim’s Aran Chunky Natural. Because the pattern uses the intarsia colorwork technique, you’ll need 2 of these 74 yd skeins.

The pattern will be divided into 4 posts spread over 4 weeks as a KAL.

Week 1: Back Panel

Week 2: Front Panel Part 1

Week 3: Front Panel Part 2

Week 4: Finishing Touches

Spring Knit Easter Pillow

This week we will start with the back panel. Don’t worry. It will be “over easy”. Haha. No? You don’t like puns? Well that’s ok. I promise the pattern will be better. Here is what you will need:

Materials:

US #13, 9mm knitting needles

16 inch straight or circular

Mary Maxim Aran Chunky in Natural (A)

     2 skeins – [90 g/137 yd]

Mary Maxim Cloudspun in Purples (B)

    1 skein – [122 g/133 yd]

16 x 16” pillow insert

Tapestry needle

Scissors

Measuring Tape

Abbreviations (US Standard):

K – knit

P – purl

R – row

RS – right side

WS – wrong side

Gauge:

9 sts x 12.5 rows

4 x 4” in stockinette

Finished Size: 16 x 16 inches

Easter Pillow Pattern Week 1

Notes: Stockinette stitch is worked by alternating rows of knit and purl stitches.

Pattern

Cast on 37 stitches in B

Knit in stockinette stitch for 51 rows.

Cast off, leaving a long tail for seaming.

That’s it. That should have been fairly painless if you are a seasoned knitter. If not, it is a great way to learn the basic stitches and work on your tension. Stop back next week when we will step it up by doing some color working.
